DPhil Student
Sathvika Krishnan
Background
Having completed both her undergraduate and Master’s degrees in Biology at LMH, Sathvika is now pursuing a DPhil funded by the Valerie-Mitchel Scholarship awarded by WildCRU. Supervised by Professor Claudio Sillero and Professor Andy Gosler, her MBiol project examined the interface between religion and tiger conservation in India, exploring how the religious motivations of communities living alongside tigers can inform more inclusive and effective conservation strategies for these endangered and charismatic animals. A trained South Indian classical vocalist and Western classical pianist, Sathvika’s musical background has inspired her enduring fascination with both music and ornithology, leading her to explore the musicality of birdsong on an academic level. In 2022, she joined the Baseline Expedition to the Dracula Reserve, Ecuador, as part of the first team of scientists to conduct biodiversity research in this remote region of the Tropical Andes. Her current DPhil, supervised jointly by Professor Amy Dickman, Dr Joe Bull, and Dr Ewan Macdonald, focuses on Nature finance in the context of megafauna conservation.
