Assessing Conservation Success in Government, Policy, and Business

Dr Molly Grace arrived at Oxford and ICCS as a KE Fellow in October 2017 to begin work on integrating the developing IUCN Green List of Species with policy and business activities, working alongside Professor E.J. Milner-Gulland and the IUCN Task Force on Assessing Conservation Success. The Green List incorporates specific methods to assess the impact of conservation actions on species recovery, making it a potentially powerful tool for organisations to evaluate their outcomes.

We are currently:

  • Working within the UK to assess the impact of national conservation efforts (partner: Natural England)
  • Working to generate global Green List species recovery data which can be used as evidence in international conventions (e.g., the Convention on Biological Diversity, Sustainable Development Goals, and Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora)
  • Soliciting feedback from KE @ ICCS business partners to explore how Green List data can be used in outcomes-based financing and to help businesses achieve sustainability targets.
